A fund-raiser was held Saturday, July 7th for 17-year old Jared Talaga. Talaga was paralyzed in skiing accident during a spring break trip to Colorado. He is a member of the Grand Haven High School ski team.

The fund-raiser titled “Life Rolls On” is the name of a national organization that supports youths that have had spinal cord injuries. The fund-raiser will help his family pay for medical bills and other expenses.

Talaga made an attempt to ski jump over a swing set and he hit his head. He was taken to a local Denver hospital and then transferred to Craig Hospital also in Denver. Craig Hospital specializes in spinal cord injuries. Talaga will be in the hospital until July 20th, two days before his 18th birthday. Family have made the trip to see him in the hospital and so have his friends. He has had visitors every single weekend.

The “Life Rolls On” fund-raiser goal is to build a trust fund for Talaga.

People who have had similar accidents have contacted the family to help Talaga become active in sports that he enjoys. Adaptive sporting equipment will help him participate in his favorite sports.
