Hi my name is Celia and me and a group of volunteers have a project for to help dogs in Mexico; because the life of a street dog in Mexico isn’t easy. Finding safe food and water, and shelter from the heat; avoiding cars; being fast enough to dodge people who mean you harm.
For every lucky dog who has a comfortable home, nutritious food, and loving guardians, countless other dogs are suffering at the hands of incompetent or abusive people, are struggling to survive on the streets, or are waiting in animal shelters for a good home.
I’m a veterinary oncologist and my dream starts here for rehabilitates injured dogs, shelters and adopts homeless pets, and educates people to make a better world for animals and humans, but we need more doctors, food, medicine, petrol, telephones and other help.
There are so many things that you can do to help our animal friends.
They need some donations for properly care and find them good homes.

I like number 5 best. Giving is a good thing to do. I feel like I have helped these people who are in need, more needy than I and I find it fulfilling. I read about a short message that goes like this or similar:

A boy was walking when he came across a beggar. So he asked God: "God, who will help these kinds of people?"

And God said, "My child, that is why I sent you".

My name is Merudh Patel and I have decided to participate in the Rutgers University Dance Marathon, which will require me to stay awake and dance for 48 hours straight to help raise money for the Embrace the Kids Foundation.

In the last year, I have come to the realization that when you open yourself to just give and help a cause or help someone else's life prosper, you in turn help yourself prosper.

Hi Emma,

My personal experience working with non profits and my coursework formed the general outline for my article. Grouping the motivations into these five categories is original. Though it does not include every possible motivation, these five categories summed up from my understanding the most important and most common ones.

Several of the sources used for research are included in the article but here is a summary:

1. Grassroots Fundraising Journal, November/December 2006
2. How to Write Successful Fundraising Letters, Mal Warwick, Published by Jossey-Bass, 2001
3. Donor Power Blog, Jeff Brooks
4. National Institutes of Health, "Brain Imaging Reveals Joys of Giving", June 25, 2007
5. Abraham Maslow theory of hierarchy of needs, summarized with other references on Wikipedia

Hi,
The claims of your article have intuitive appeal. However, I was wondering what your sources were? On what grounds are these five factors supported? Are they from some poll or review of other research? If so, where were they originally published? If this is their original publication, what were your methods for ascertaining these factors? Thank you :) Emma

That's a very good point about fundraising and philanthropy being different in other countries. Are you a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP)? There was a Latin American conference in May and they are planning another one for 2008.

I just saw on their website that there will be a conference in Sao Paulo in a few weeks too. I think it's just for schools and education.
