Hello, I am a sophomore in college at Springfield, IL. In my Health Science club, I am the project leader for the Health Fair's first ever 5K run! I need to set a budget though. What would you reccommend the amount of money I should ask for the budget??

Charitable giving is the act of giving money, goods or time to the unfortunate, either directly or by means of a charitable trust or other worthy cause. Charitable giving as a religious act or duty is referred to as almsgiving or alms. The name stems from the most obvious expression of the virtue of charity is giving the objects of it the means they need to survive.

I like this post, thanks

It's good to start planning early! Antonio makes a good point, anytime you plan an event like this you need people who are willing and excited about helping you. Work closely with the charity who will benefit as they likely already have a list of volunteers. Otherwise seek out friends and others who have an interest in the same cause. Sometimes if you just send out an email or ask you'll be surprised at who would enjoy helping.

The legal documents that you'd need to create or register include a waiver of liability from participants, legal authorization from the city or place where the vent will be held and insurance. EMS should also be in attendance.

For more info see the <a href="http://charitymile.com/blog/category/athletic-events/planning/">"planning" category at the Charity Mile blog</a> and the ebook that's available there.

I am a senior and our school has instituted a new program where each senior has to do a project that will benefit or help someone. I chose to do a 5k run for cancer. I am wondering what, (other than securing a place to hold the event) will be necessary to obtain. Such as: legal documents, insurance of the benefit, or any other type of paperwork. I'll be holding this event in spring of 2010 and need to start obtaining permission now if necessary.

I'm starting my first 5K run/walk and is there a certain age or any other requirements such as a license to form these types of organizations I'm really looking forward to this and would love some help. Oh and where did you find so many people to help you get this started.

Thanks for the post it helped with some decisions

Do you mean how does this event raise funds for the charity? Each runner pays a fee to enter the race. Sponsorships from businesses also help pay for a lot of the set up costs of the event. Other walk or run events also ask participants to raise money on their own.
