Honestly, I don't see anything wrong if you charge some of your clients minimal fee. Like what you've said, this fee is still reasonable if it covers at least your meal within that period of working.

Dear friend, great post and thank you for these great tips. I’m not sure if you know but there’s a company out of Dallas that has a great idea for fundraising. Check out http://www.phoneraiser.com . You can launch a fundraiser for your organization, non-profit, church, etc. with a unique fundraiser idea. Good luck.

Great point Joanne. It goes back to the saying, "it's not what you say, but HOW you say it!"

This is a sensitive issue and needs to approached carefully. Really, I think a nonprofit that has to resort to charging its clients for what should be free needs to look at its precarious financial situation. Should it even be in business? On the other hand, I don't see too much amiss in gently reminding recipients of services that they can help support the organization if they desire and can afford to do so. After all, when we go to church and receive services, we also donate. When I receive the services of a hospital or clinic, I may well want to help out with a donation. These two things are not exclusive. It's all about how it is done.
