Motorcycle Rally & Harley Raffle

Last month a successful Charity Motorcycle Ride was held to benefit Homes for Our Troops, an organization which helps injured veterans.

This event provides us an excellent model to follow. Not just for planning the same type of event, but also the strategies that were used.

Apply these five strategies to your own event planning and your fundraising will be easier and more profitable!

1. Find a good match between the event theme, the donor audience and the organization. Motorcycle riders are often veterans themselves so the cycle ralle was an excellent match for Homes for Our Troops.

2. Events must provide value. In addition to the draw of the ride itself, riders attending the event got a pre-event breakfast, T-shirt and a post-event concert.

3. Maximize earnings. With 350 riders $17,000 was brought in just on ride registrations. But the group didn't stop there! There was also the Harley raffle and a 50/50 raffle.

4. Volunteers. There was a planning committee of about twenty people and people volunteering at event itself. Once the ride began there was not as much for volunteers to do, except enjoy the event themselves!

5. Partnerships. Homes partnered with two businesses to make this event happen, a Harley Davidson dealership and the Texas Roadhouse restaurant. But these were not just any companies! They were excited about the cause and participated in the event planning.

Quick Raffle Survey

The Harley Davidson was a popular prize for the Homes for Our Troops raffle. Not only did it bring in more funds, but it generated publicity for the ride itself too.

Raffles are great as add-on fundraisers or can be a stand alone fundraiser. In fact I get a lot of questions about raffles. I created a raffle faq page earlier this year, but it's far from complete. Now it's time to really hear all of those questions and get some answers!
