Thank you! This information was very helpful. I've encountered a number of the situations you addressed and will use your suggestions to work through the problems. It's always a perk to have folks willing to share their wisdom. Thanks again.

Excellent information,

Yes, it can indeed be frustrating dealing with some board members, makes you wonder what their underlying agenda is when they seem not interested in learning of new creative fundraiser strategies. Not to even respond is simply amazing, as if they had all the funding in the world, sure makes you wonder. Thanks again for the insight into this often questioned subject.

Your what NOT to do list is very important. I think we can get so caught up that board members make us crazy. People have different reasons for serving on boards. If you can get some insight on that, it can color how you deal with Board members and make your life easier.

Thanks, Lisa! I appreciate your comments. You're absolutely right, working with board members can certainly be one of the more challenging tasks of a non-profit manager. There were many times when I lost sleep, got upset, and grumbled about board behavior. I would always try, however, to remember why I was with that organization in the first place and "re-discover" my own passion. Since I worked primarily at a children's summer camp and an elementary school, I often would go hang out with the kindergartners for a little bit ont heir recess. Compared to some board members, the kindergarten was actually a step up!
